In Reply to: Menstrual cycle & Epilepsy connection? posted by Diane on February 08, 2000 at 19:47:31:

: Has anyone ever heard of a connection between menstrual cycles and epilepsy. Both grand mal seizures I've had, I've been on my period.

Sorry for a delayed answer, I just found this web site today! I'm glad to see I'm not crazy with my idea of some of my seizures being affected by hormones. I suffer from both grand mall and atonic seizures, but it's only the atonic ones that happen right around my menstrual cycle. I'm sure there's a link, because I didn't start getting these atonic seizures until right after my daughter was born. (The grand mals type I've had since I was 7). High doses of Depakote and Lamictal have practically gotten rid of the atonic seizures, though.
