I have been on Lamictal and Tegretol for about three years now. There was a six-month period when I could not drive, because I had a period of about a month where I was having up to 80 seizures a day while I was switching meds. However, I have never had a problem since--Lamictal itself is fine to drive with, as long as you haven't had any seizures in a long time.
