I wrote this before but some how I didn't load it right. I wanted to tell you about my pregnancy. I was diagnosed with epilepsy about 6 years ago. They put me on 1000mg of tegretol a day to control the seizures. the doctor told me I should never get pregnant. I was 24 years old and devestated. We had one son but wanted another child. I couldn't let go of the urge to have another baby so we never took steps to insure there would never be another child. Well, accidents do happen and two years ago I got pregnant. Boy was I scared. We didn't know what to do. We decided to continue the pregnancy. The doctor said to stay on the tegretol because it would be worse for the baby if I had a seizure. They told us all of the birth defects that could probably happen. The two that were the most probable were cleft pallet and spinal bifita. We had an amnio that ruled out the latter. We had many ultra sounds and I was just a big ball of stress thinking that they may find something wrong. On April 13,1998 I gave birth to a very healthy beautiful baby boy. It was a long hard fought battle to have him but it was worth every single moment of stress and worry. I even breast fed because the doctor said he would get a very little amount. He is now a very normal healthy 2 year old who is into every thing. I know how scared you are because I have been there but the reward of a child is worth the risk. Just make sure you have a great doctor and ask lots of questions. I wish you all the luck in the world! If you have any questions or just want to chat please feel free to e-mail me.
