: : I am a woman 27 years old. I have been taking tegretol 200 mg twice a day during several years.
: : Right now , i got pregnant. I am seven weeks. I really want to know how safe is the tegretol for pregnant woman.
: : I have had the opportunity to ask to different doctors about it. Some of their opinions vary, some say that is really safe and the abnormalities are not common. Some of then say tha 90% the babies born healthy. Some say that the medicine produce serious birth defects.
: : Many opinions i haveh heard and i really would like what is the risks.
: : I have been feeling worried about it.This is so important to me.

: My sister was pregnant a year ago and she was on tegretol but the doctors took her off of it and put her on phenobarbitol for the rest of her pregnancy, then as soon as she delivered her baby they put her back on tegretol. Ask about it :)

What? That is SOOO strange! I'm currently on Phenobarbital, and my doctors have always warned me that I should switch to Tegretol should I get pregnant. They've said that Tegretol is safer in regards to birth defects.

Since we've received conflicting opinions regarding this matter, perhaps you should ask each (?) doctor how current his or her information is. Some doctors might even be repeating the same information that they studied in college. Medical advancements and changing opinions might have occurred since then.
