: : : I was wondring how much Tegretol the average person takes. I take 1000 mg of Carbatrol a day for complex partial seizures that are secondarily generalized. I was diagnosed in Jan. with ideopathic(no known origin)seizures. I am having break through seizures at least 2 times a month and the DR is going to up the dose.I was wondering if any of you out there were on 1200 or more mg of tegretol or on some combination of drugs. What is their effectiveness and you experience. This is all very new to me. I just dont want to end up in the hospital again in status being shot with enough Ativan to make me puke. Any info would be helpful.

: : Hi Geri

: : I have been there with my 7 year old son - who kept getting breakthrough seizures and had his meds. increased until they couldn't be increased any more. He has now been moved onto Epilim which has (so far)been a great improvement - (so far) no breakthrough seizures and he is much more "alert" and "with it". Hope this helps.

: I have also been in that boat. I was up to 1000 mg of Tegretol. My body couldn't tolerate it.And
: I was still having seizures. I' ve taken several other meds with no success. After 8 years and
: surgery, no success, I now take a combination of Tegretol, only 500 mg, and Lamictal. I have
: been seizure free for almost 9 months! ( knock on wood) I've also been shot up with enough
: Ativan that I didn't know if I was coming or going! I wish you luck! Keep your chin up!
