: I believe my sister fakes seizures to get attention & medication for headaches. She says the headaches cause the seizures. I know that is possible but In this case I don't believe it's true. You woud have to know my sister to understand but my question is, would she be able to fool many doctors in emergency rooms & her own doctor even if these were fake seizures? Is there an easy way to tell during a seizure if it is fake?

Julie,
Sure, anyone can fake a seizure. But if your talking about pseudoseizures (refered to as a false
seizures, not fake) they are very real to the person having them. They are psycologicaly induced not
physicaly. My 2nd neurologist told me they look just like an actual seizure and it is very hard to
tell them apart. One of the ways is a normal EEG.But that doesn't always work. My EEGs were
all normal so she told me they were pseudoseizures. I saw someone else and come to find out
they were real. A good neurologist should be able to figure this out. Do her doctors feel they are
true seizures? What kind of seizures is she having? Has she seen a neurologist?I was also told
that pseudoseizures can be more difficult to treat. Lets hope she is faking them!
Hope this helps. Johnna
