: : I have recently been diagnosed with partial complex seizure disorder. I am getting mixed messages from my physician and nurse practitioner on how long I have to wait to drive, and whether I need to report my seizures to the Department of Motor Vehicles. How long do you have to wait in New York State and is it reportable to the DMV? Any information would be appreciated!

: I don't know about New York but here in michigan you have to wait six months to drive I knew this because I have what they call grand mals I also have absence siezures which is where you blank out for a split second. The only thing i could tell you is that you should either look it up on the internet or ask you doctor. you don't have to let anybody know accept your doctor he or she should know
: about every one.

Here in Maine it is 3 months seizure free with a letter from your neurologist stating you are safe
to drive. However, if DMV is not aware of this it is on the honor system. In the past it was 6 months.
It was reduced about 4 years ago. I'm unaware why this changed. It would be interesting to know.
