: : Hello. i just found out that i have epilepsy. I'm 27 yrs. old. I had a seizure six yrs ago coming out of recoverory from a operation. and on sunday i had another one. The doc. said no driving for six months and if i was seizure free tor this time he would allow me to drive again. but he highly doudts that i will be able to drive again...Does anyone get SSI for epilepsy?? What kind of restrictions do you all have?? what kind of adjustments do i need to make to my everyday living. I have two young children and unsopportive husband. thanks.
: Hi Jenni
: Give the husband a kick up the rear end for starters! You will need support because your epilepsy means changes for you and your family and he will just have to get his act together. I would get in touch with my local epilepsy association they will probably have meetings where you can meet other local people with epilepsy.
When I had my seizure the dr. said I couldn't drive UNTIL I was seizure free for 6 months. I wasn't worried as I was retired and had a caring boyfriend who took me out to dinner every night. However, boyfriend became very controlling. I needed to get my driver's license back and move back to my own place. My dr. was very cooperative, sent the papers to the license bureau and my license was good again. I got car insurance without any problem and get the good driver discount as I had a good driving record prior to the seizure. There is no mention of the seizure in the paperwork from the license review board so the insurance company can't discriminate. Work on being seizure free, and getting the dr. to do the blood work to prove you are taking the medication as prescribed. Get the forms to fill out to request getting your driver's license back, and find a dr. who is willing to help you.
It worked for me.
