: I want to know how to get my life back now that I started having seizures? I feel like I have lost my independence.

Sher,

You have not lost your independence or your life!!!!

All that has happened is that your life has taken a change of direction and you now have a challenge before you that you did not have before. You will find that you have a level of independence and reserves that you did not know that you have.

Since epilepsy was diagnosed for me I have found many changes. Sure I have crashed my car and now sold it. Sure I am not allowed to drive. Sure I have been through hell trying some 6 different medications with horrible side effects that the specialists said that I could not have and which were not listed on the packets as typical side effects. And sure I am not able to work due to the side effects and the fact that I am still not stablilised and I find that I am very confused, frustrated, bitter and angry after each seizure. But those feelings pass. You just pick yourself up, dust yourself down and get on with life.

After I vist my specialist I just sit out side the rooms of other specialists and watch other people coming and going to seek medical attention. People who can't see; people who only have one leg; people with cancer; people who are paralysed down one side etc and it doesn't take me long to realise that I am a lucky person.

So now I have to walk and ride a bike everywhere and now as a 55 year old my body is fitter than it has been for many years. I had to hitch hike across Australia in November because I couldn't drive. But I had another life experience that others don't get.

And another good thing is that I have found that I am so lucky with some very special friends who care for me, watch over me and look after me and which reminds me that I am a very rich person.

Your independence is not lost and life hasn't stopped.

If your seizures have just started I am much further down the track than you. Post me another message and I would love to help you.

I send you my love and best wishes.
