I am on depakote, and have been for 10 years. When My husband and I decided to start a family, my doctors(primary care, OB/GYN, & neurologist) all told me to come off of my medicine due to the risks of birth defects. I was off of depakote for my entire Pregnancy, and never had any problems with seizures; in fact the doctors thought that I would not have to take depakote anymore! I had a beautiful baby girl 14 months ago! Unfortunately, 10 days after I gave birth, I had to get back on the depakote because I started to have "myoclonic jerks" which would have eventually turned into seizures......I personally recommend staying off of the depakote if you can during pregnancy...if you can't, then at least for the first trimester. Your baby's life and health are at stake here. God bless you and yours.
