: I am curious to know if anyone else is suffering the loss of long term memory due to seizures. I have had about a dozen Grand Mal seizures over the past twenty-three years. I am fortunate to have very good seizure control as long as I take my meds. I find it very difficult to recall the majority of my own childhood and have lost bits and pieces of my kids experiences also. Am I just having "senior moments " or have my seizures really worsened my memory?
Regarding the memory loss - there is a period in my life where I have noticed quite a bit of memory loss. I have found that is a definite side effect of the medication that I have taken for my seizures. I have probably taken almost every medication available for seizure control. I am now taking Felbatol and have noticed a HUGE improvement in my memory. My friends and family have also noticed this improvement - it is probably more evident to them than myself. I know not everyone can take every medication and Felbatol does have some major side effects but it has made things much better for me - not just my memory. So I would suggest that maybe you ask your doctor about it.
