John,

Hi. There really is no "cure" for epilepsy but surgery is always an option. I had it almost 10 years ago and I've been seizure free since. I had complex partial seizures, however, unlike your sister. It is difficult to determine who might be able to have surgery unless you undergo rigorous testing which I had to do. Only then can one be a candidate for surgery. It is my understanding that those with grand mal seizures are usually not candidates because the seizure activity in the brain covers so much area and they aren't able to remove the tissue without harming vital and important tissue than controls things such as sight and hearing. Do you know how to respond when your sister is having a seizure? The best thing to do is let her have the seizure but just make sure there isn't anything around her that she could harm herself on. It's best to let the seizure run it's course and just make sure she's safe. Epilepsy isn't a fun thing to endure so the best thing for your sister right now is to make sure she takes her medicine. I hope I was of some help. Take care.

Lindsey
