Hi I am new to this board.

My autistic, developmentally delayed 4 yr old son has just been dxed with "staring seizures".

Neuro has put him on Depakene (sp?). He told me there is a risk of liver failure and death in kids under 3 with profound MR. He told me that routine blood tests would not indicate whether the liver was in trouble, because one day the reading is normal, next it could indicate failure.

So his conclusion is the blood test is not only unecessary but invasive to my son. Does anyone have any info on this? Any opinions?
Thanks, I would really appreciate it! Liz
