: What's the deal on drinking and its cause and effect on
: seizures? Can weekend drinking (6-12 beers a day) cause
: a seizure state? Any info on alcohol & seizures; and info
: on side effects of alcohol & dilantin combo? Thanks.

If you have seizures, yes it can onset a seizure.

Yes, some people could have a seizure from alcohol poising if one's brain has enough spike to burst.

I've taken dilantin for 25 years. You get wasted much quicker. Generally, any drug on top of dilantin (for me anyways) is amplified to some degree. When you drink, the alcohol burns the dilantin up very quickly ( this is how the quick wasted state arrives ) AND every antiseizure med has a required standard "therapeutic" level in the blood. With dilantin the docs tell me that it should be between 10 - 20. I stay in the 10 - 11 range. Dilantin is an protein bound drug meaning, eat your peanuts with the beer! just kidding.

Back to the alcohol, REMEMBER--every time you drink, you clean your blood of the dilantin build up, if you drink everyday, there's not really any reason for taking the dilantin, although it should be the other way, take the dilantin to prevent the seizure and don't drink to prevent more seizures and other problems.

I drink, don't feel bad if you do. I love margaritas! But only once in a while. Take care.
