Super Dave,

I have a MAster's in Nutritional Science so please do not say I do not know what I am talking about. First of all I did not say that monounsaturated fat didnt have its advantages over other types of fat. I just gave a general statement, really general, that you do not have to eat fat to gain weight. ANd I said that the guy in question is far from fat but that once you go down that road it can be hard to stop. I have read many clinical studies where subjects had done that and gotten obese. They had really fast metabolisms a few years before they started shoving down the fat and their metabolism shifted without them knowing, slowed down, and all of them ended up obese. When I said "getting fat" it was a lamens term for being obese, sorry you did not realize that. ANd how many diseases are associated with that? Heart disease, diabetes, etc. Also, the gentleman wanting to gain weight is lifting weights. Usually, when someone is doing that, they want muscle mass as Connie assumed also. If you know a biological pathway where fat goes to muscle, please let me know so I can publish it and make a supplement involved in the pathway so I can be a millionaire. Carbs and Protein go to fat when there is an excess energy but fat does not go to muscle. I recommended high carb and protein diet because, like any registered dietician or nutritionist would say, if someone wants to gain weight, do not shove down fat. It will not kill you, fat is not evil, and yes your body needs it. I did not even say watch his fat intake. However, fat is fat and it will only be used as your bodies second source of energy if you are working your body out in an aerobic manner. I do not know how much of a cardiovascular workout Lanky is doing, but the high carbs will benefit him regardless. And if he does have an excess of calories, some of the carbs will go to fat so SUper Dave can be happy. Finally, I did read the original post. I can eat a lot of peanut butter. I can eat a lot of many things. I have a huge appetite. However not everyone is like that. LAnky wanted something that was not filling. PEanut butter is really filling to many people. FAt in general satiates hunger. So peanut butter is not an appropraite choice even IF you wanted to PLUMP him up instead of PUMPING him up like I suggested. The shakes I recommended are not filling at all and I stand by my original post.
