I wore out two Nordic Track Challenger ski machines in five+ years, eventually cracking the frame on each of them. That's not bad--I averaged using them five times a week, 30+ minutes a workout. When I busted the second one in August, I looked to buy another, online--and found out that the company was in bankruptcy.

I wanted a machine offering a similar workout, so I looked through back issues of Consumer Reports. They'd rated the Orbitrek highly. Oh well. I placed my order on 8/6; my credit card was charged 8/7. I started calling and emailing the distributor, shopcyberworld.com, and got the same treatment other posters have mentioned. Finally, I sent a threatening e-mail, and got a response. Then I was given a UPS delivery #.

It arrived on NOVEMBER 20, THREE AND A HALF MONTHS AFTER MY ORDER WAS PLACED. Unreal? Yes....but that's not all. Upon assembly, I noticed that a part of the frame was missing. Each pivot tube, and each end of the handlebar axle, should terminate in a silver, washer-like collar that seems to be soldered in place. ONE of these--at one end of the handlebar axle--is missing. That reflects awful quality control. I also noticed, as others have mentioned, that the welds seem kind of weak.
Shopcyberworld responded to my e-mail of last night with a note today saying "sorry about that...here's the phone # for the warranty people at Orbitrek."

Well, I exercise pretty heavily. I used a reliable exercise bike--for a much longer time per workout--while waiting for the Orbitrek to arrive. Perhaps, if they'd replace the unit w/o making me send this one back first (or pay any MORE S&H charges!), I'd give it a chance. But I'd like to have a real-world snail-mail address for Thane Fitness AND an E-mail address. I notice there are some posts listed here I can't get into. I just stumbled onto this site, so I don't know why. I'd appreciate any help. And frankly, I'd recommend buying a barely-used Nordic Track over the Orbitrek. The independent arm motion of the NT models likely produce better toning.

Thanks,
Dave
