Well, for beginners, most people i've seen regardless of whether they're lifting or doing cardio lose weight first. You have to strip away those layers of fat before you can get muscle mass, in most cases.
Change your diet, eat less carbs and fats. Do more cardio (a mile isn't enough per day) and do some more tae bo! And congratulations on getting married!
