well, the basic idea of a low carb diet is to cut out all refined sugar and cut back on natural sugar. The idea behind it is that your body makes enough natural sugar. When you consume extra sugar..mainly refined sugars..your body stores it as fat. When your no longer consuming the extra sugar your body gets rid of the stored fat.
The rate at which you lose weight depends on how many carbs you cut out. But a good low carb diet {suzanne sommers one is good} does not cut out any food groups or limit you to mainly meat as some do. On suzannes book you are alowed to have whole grain breads and pasta's {you don't even notice the diff with the pasta} but you can only have it with veggies. Pick up her book and read it, it's very easy to understand and it is not restrictive {just no refined sugar and a few fruits and veggies that are high in carbs}
