: Over the last month I've had a huge increase in the number/size of visable floaters in the eye. I saw a doctor about it 2 days ago and the nurse scheduled an appointment for me to see the ophthomologist in 2 weeks. However, the flashes of light/sparkles have just began recenlty over the last day or two, and I see them sometimes. Its posssible it could be a retinal tear/detachment. Is it good to wait the two weeks or is it too long?

Allen, DO NOT WAIT 2 weeks!!!!!! I just had eye surgery 3 weeks ago to reataach my retina in the right eye. I know now from experience that if I had gotten to the doctor's office only a few days sooner, while the retina was stil attached, I may have been able to avoid this surgery and had it repaired in the office by a much simpler laser procedure that is also a lot less risky. Please, please contact an opthomologist or retinal surgeon as soon as possible! I don't mean to scare anyone, just hope to help others avoid problems for themselves. If you would like to write me, please feel free to. There is also a very informative web site (http://www.floaters.net/fworld.html) Good luck and God bless to all :-)
