Keratitis is an inflammation of the front clear window of the eye (called the cornea). The colored part of the eye, called the iris, actually inside the eye, behind the clear cornea. "Kerato" refers to the cornea. "Itis" means inflammation. Kerato + itis = Keratitis (cornea inflammation). There many types of keratitis. Eye doctors define keratitis by the cause: bacterial keratitis, viral keratitis, fungal keratitis, allergic keratitis, traumatic keratitis, etc.. The treatment of your keratitis depends on the cause. Your doctor should be able to give you a better idea based on his findings and diagnosis.
