I am a 22 year old female who was diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) two years ago. Doctors have concluded that it was because I took Birth Control Pills to regulate my cycle when I was 18 years old. Everything was fine until I woke up one morning when I was 20 and I couldn't see out of my left eye. This is a permanent vision loss. Soon after I went blind in my left eye, other things started happening to my body. I began to bruise very easily on my arms and legs, gain weight rapidly, and have poor circulation in the fingers and toes of the right side of my body. I was also diagnosed with homocysteinuria in my heart. I still have no idea what that is! In October, 1998, the doctors told me to go off Birth Control since they were sure by then that this was the cause of all my problems. When I went off the birth control, I got amenhorrea, the loss of the menstrual cycle. I have not had a period since October, 1998. I had been going to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) for two years, but I moved to the Washington, D.C. area in August, 1999 to accept a teaching position. I need to find some doctors to help me, or someone who has gone through a similar situation, because I don't know what to do. I should also mention that I was born with Cerebral Palsy on the left side of my body, but I don't think it has anything to do with my current problems. I would appreciate any information or medical advice. Thank you so much!
