: I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SECONDARY CATARACTS AND WANT TO KNOW IF ANY ONE KNOWS OF THIS DIAGNOSIS.
Secondary cataracts may develope after the primary catarct has been removed. This is different to the original cataract as the lens has been removed. The secondary cataract occurs when the posterior surface of the lens capsule that is left behind after surgery becomes opaque. Secondary catarcts are treated differently - a laser capsulotomy makes a hole in the capsule and restores the vision. This laser proceedure is often done in office and takes seconds. This proceedure is not done without risk.
