: Responding to Opthalmic migraines: I have had them for 3 to 4 years. First few scared the pitts out of me! I work in health insurance and co worker nurses identified, after I'd seen regular doctor twice, with no success. No pain, just the fractured vision, but for me, sometimes they are long-lasting. Some 45 minutes long. Have also developed benign positional vertigo. Wonder if the two problems can be related as that is inner ear. Ear, eyes, all the canals behind? No answer from medical in my area as to connection. Anybody else????

I have also had visual migraines for several years. The sparkles and the dizziness usually accompany them, followed by a mild to medium headache. I have only had one "real" migraine in my life, though they run in my family. I have been on the net looking for information, and besides the usual triggers (msg, chocolate, red wine, and the other things that make life worth living), people have indicated that birth control pills - especially if you miss, then double a dose, can cause them. I don't think that it is an inner ear thing - I understand it has to do with constriction or spasm of brain blood vessels. Try to identify, and limit, your triggers, and when the sparkling starts, sit down. Good luck.
