I had it in July '98 and love it. I started 20/400 in both eyes. After the surgery I was 20/25 in the left and 20/50 in the right. Since I am right eye dominant I had trouble with my distance vision. I could drive with no trouble and got an unrestricted driver's license, but at the airport had trouble seeing distant signs. So in Feb '99 I had my right enhanced and am now at 20/15. I use reading glasses for really small print (maps, classifieds) but don't need them day to day. That will probably change since LASIK does not affect normal aging of your eyes.
For the first few weeks I had a little trouble with halos around lights, and some double vision when I looked at numbers on a screen (I knew the baseball score of 66-33 was wrong). That resolved.
I looked into several doctors in my area before settling on the most expensive one. He also had the most experience and no bad corneal outcomes. He has very specific criteria re: what is successful (20/40 which is required to get an unrestricted license in Texas) and 6 months of followup included in the original fee. My enhancement was also covered by the original fee.
People who are nearsighted are more prone to retinal detachment, and LASIK does not change that. Your eyeball will still be too long, but your cornea will be reshaped. You will still need annual eye exams to watch for retinal problems.
My suggestions - find people in your area who have had it and ask about their experience. Look for a doc with experience, who offers followup and enhancement in the original fee, and who has specific criteria. I feel this is a true "you get what you pay for" and did not mind paying more for the doc I used.
: If you guys had laser eye surgery, can you guys give me your opinion on it??? Cause I want to get one too. I just need some opinions.
