: My mother has been diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (dry macular degeneration). She has heard about the use of accupuncture for this condition. Does anyone have any information about this? She doesn't want to take the treatment if it's not effective.

Eileen,
There is an acupuncture clinic in Hot Springs Village, AR that does this sort of treatment. It is called the Arkansas Massage Therapy Clinic. I have been there and had seven treatments. It seemed to work a little for me but you need to go for more treatments that what I had. I am 32 and want to try it again. The people that I talked to while I was there that were considerably older than I all reported good results. The doctor will do a vision test beforehand and then do five treatments. After the fifth treatment there is another vision test and you find out if the treatments workeed. If they did you can schedule more. It is $50 per treatment. There has been an article about this clinic in Health magazine. I hope this helps. If I can be of more assistance, please let me know.
