: My mother has been diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (dry macular degeneration). She has heard about the use of accupuncture for this condition. Does anyone have any information about this? She doesn't want to take the treatment if it's not effective.

I am not aware ofhow acupuncture would work. But, at the Mid West Eye Institute in Indianapolis, IN they are doing "retnal transrelocation". I went there to see if I was a canidate. I wasn't. But, they are doing it on macular degeneration. They lift the retna with saline type liquid from the back of the eye and pull the healthy tissue over the macular. This may be something you want to consider for your mother. It is fairly new and a friend's dad did not get as good results as he wanted. But there are many things happening in the treatment of the retna. Hang in there.
