: I am in the same situation - doctor has given me cortisone injections, cortisone (orally), and I've tried different remedies - special socks, etc. Even with my new pairs of backless shoes, sneakers, sandels, etc. - the pain is still bad. I am told that surgery is the only option but was also told that my foot would be in a cast, no weight bearing for awhile, etc., etc. A podiatrist is telling me this, and my primary physician is telling me that a podiatrist is very capable of performing this procedure. Still, I am very leary of all this. Please advise. Thank you.

Cathy, I have suffered with heel spurs for 2 years with my right foot and now has affected my left. I went to a podiatrist for treatment with my right and surgery was my next resort, but decided against it. Now with my left i go to a chiropractor who specializes in extrmeities, hands and feet. He adjusts my ankles and feet and has helped me tremendously. You still need to do your stretches and icing, but believe me he has helped me.
