I had this problem a few years back. My family doctor prescribed antibiotics first to eliminate the infection. After two weeks, I returned for the "surgery". This was not a big deal. What did hurt though was the injection of the anesthetic. There is not much meat on your toe. Luckily this does not last long. With proper care on my own, I have not had a repeat of the ingrown nail.
