I am looking for a referral to a good podiatrist or orthopedic surgeon
in Northern California. I will take any referral, but would be especially
interested if you know of a doctor that had experience surgically
correcting metatarsus primus elevatus (elevated first metatarsal).
Another thing that would particularly interest me were if the doctor had
experience with bunion surgery on a foot with abduction of the forefoot.
I have a condition called metatarsus primus elevatus caused by a
past bunion surgery. What happened to me is one of the worst things
that can happen to a person from bunion surgery. It causes me alot
of pain under the lesser metatarsals because the first metatarsal is
too elevated to bear any weight. Also it has caused my arches to
collapse without the structure of the first metatarsal to hold it up.
I can't find any orthotics or custom shoe modifications that will make
my feet stop hurting and my legs stop hurting all at once.
I am mobility impaired at this point, and I am only 35. The pain is to
the point that I am fondly daydreaming of giving up walking altogether,
so I am interested in surgery to try to avoid that fate.
The podiatrist who did this to my feet was quite young and inexperienced
at the time. I have learned my lesson about inexperienced doctors, so
please send me your recommendations for doctors who can come through
in the really tough cases.
