I have had a nagging, arthritis-like pain in my big toe for weeks. Then for 2 nights waking up with stabbing pain. Now during the day I have intermittent achiness and a tingling numbness in the area.

I have no family history of gout. I very rarely drink alcohol. I don't eat a lot of meat. Since I don't seem to fit the profile, and since I have the numbness, should I be considering some other possiblity for my symptoms, or does this sound like classic gout? Thank you for your help.
