: my daughter has been suffering for 10weeks with a severely infected in growing toe nail. minor ops have been planned three times and have been put off due to infection. she is feeling unwell and in a lot of pain. she is away from home at school and i am concerned that she has had at least 6 courses of anti-biotics...what can i do...i am worried she will loose her toe or get scepticeamia (sorry if spect wrong). Is this possible?

The minor ops you refer to needs to be done to clear up the infection. An incision &
drainage is needed. In more serious infected ingrown nails, antibiotics alone will not clear
up the infection. The nail part that is in the skin needs to be removed. This is routinely done
when a person has an infected toe. For it to be put off because of the infection is stupid, because
the procedure is what allows the infection to be cleared up. The person who says you need the
infection cleared up first does not know what they are talking about for this problem.
The very fact she has had the problem for 10 wks is proof. If you would have gone to an expert, the problem
would have been cleared up 2 months ago.
