In Reply to: Toenail Removal - Can someone please answer my questions (Need to make decision soon) posted by Stephanie on November 17, 1999 at 22:42:49:
: I had foot surgery about 1 1/2 years ago and ever since then have had problems with the nails/toes that were worked on not growing. My nail WILL NOT grow. My podiatrist put me on Sporonox, but they won't grow. It's like a very high layer of nail forms on top of another nail but nothing goes forward and there's no gap at all between the skin and what I do have a nail. He suggested toenail removal as sometimes these nails get "velcroed down" and just can't grow out. Has anyone heard of this dilemma? How long does it take for your nails to grow out and is there a chance they won't grow back at all? He recommended either the removal of the nails or trying that other drug (Starts with an "L") but I'd have to be on it 3 months and it may not even work (would it force the nail to grow??) Sorry so long, but I'm very concerned over what my next step will be. Thanks for any and all input!
I have heard of good results from two individuals who have used medication to remedy toenail problems. I have heard friends and my podiatrist talk discouragingly about toenail removal. My vote is weigh the cost and benefits of the medication and then decied for or against it, but spare yourself the painful toenail removal with its unlikely benefits.
