Vanessa hi....
My doc told me before he went in--if 50% of the the cartilage was gone--he would put an implant in & yes--that was the case---like arthritis just ate it away..... how long to walk---well I had that stiff shoe thing on for 6 weeks then walked fine... It would have been a lot sooner if it was just a bunionectomy with no implant.....
fel free to ask any more questions.....having the bunion removed was the best---no pain at all in the area where it used to be....do it for sure
:o) rob

: Rob, why did you need to have a toe joint implant? Is that part of the bunion removal operation? Also how long did it take for you to walk normally again? Thanks for your help.

: I had the surgery in 1996.....also had a great toe joint implant at the same time------the bunion removal --- no problem---the area feels great now---the joint implant..I seemed to have traded in 1 pain & received 3 in return--the joint always feels still - tradeoff I guess....
: : Good luck.....Rob.....the operation in general was really nothing----- ya wear that strap on velcro shoe/boot thing whatever it's called so your foot doesn't bend-----till the time ya can wear shoes again

: : : Has anyone had an operation to remove bunions? I want to know if it is painful and if the outcome is good. I'm 25 and I have always had them but only lately they've been really hurting. I like playing sports and dancing and I don't to be limited because of my bunion
