: : I get foot pain from certain carpets and vinyl. Denser carpets cause the most pain. The pain is both localized in the feet and also the whole body aches, like when you have a fever. I have tried just about every conventional and alternative cure and do get some relief with a medication. Has anyone out there ever come across something like this before. This issue has substantially compromised my work situation.

: Rod, have you ever heard of Fibromyalgia? The symptoms make me think of this. I would not wish this on anyone, but if this is your problem it would be very heplful to know what is wrong with you.

I'm sorry this reply is so long after your initial posting - I've only just come across this site.

I am a reflexologist from South Africa. I'm not sure of the medical term for your complaint, but I have treated people with very similar problems. These patients normally have very sensitive feet anyway and, often due to working conditions, have to spend several hours a day on hard floor surfaces. As you mentioned, dense carpets often seems to have a worse effect than bare concrete. That you should suffer with pain throughout your body is, similarly, a very common and, from a reflexologists perspective, very understandable complaint.

Might I ask some questions? Do you normally have very sensitive feet? Are your feet normally ticklish? Have you tried reflexology? If your answer to the last is 'no', then might I respectfully suggest that you find a reputable local practicioner and try a couple of treatments.

I hope that you find some relief to your problem and would be interested in hearing from you in this regard.
