I see that it has been awhile since your message was posted. I have the same problem you describe your wife having but only in my right foot. My problem is called Plantar Faschitis. It is a chronic inflamation for the plantar faschia. I am taking an anti-inflamatory medication by mouth and wearing custom made insoles to support my arches. My problem is slowly improving. The main drawback is that I love to go barefooted. If I spend much time without my insoles my foot hurts more for several days. Hope this helps.
