I went in for the in-house procedure to remove the EDGE I think they called it---a few years back---had the same problems as you all the time..
Worth checking into...not sue what the cost was a few hundred $$$ I believe---insurance will/should cover it--& you are really not miserable or missing any work etc..check it out

: For few years have had problem with nail on big toe; only way to clip is to "rip out corners", pain begins when jagged-edges grow and pierce surrounding skin... it is now at the point that entire nail covering top of toe is severly-rounded (no longer flat/slightly curved). I am reluctant to go to foot-doc due they will charge arm & leg ... I tried clipping a "V-shape" in center-tip of nail, but so far nail contiues to grow abnomally... and hurts like hell! anybody have a suggestion that might work????? thanks!
