: Who would be preferable to perform surgery: a
podiatrist or an orthopedist? I know the
orthopedist--he did carpal tunnel release on both
my wrists--& I think he's very competent, but he's
60 miles away.

Hi,
Just a note, from personal experience; I doctored with 2 podiatrists (with differing opinions), an orthopedist and a neurologist before finding my problem. I was diagnosed with tarsal tunnel syndrome by two of them, but then after 2 years of suffering, a trip to a pain clinic, and an MRI I did finally find out my problem. I didn't have tarsal tunnel all. I have spinal stenosis and my spinal cannel is narrowed, thus effecting nerves all the way down my leg and my foot. So, I guess my message is, don't let anyone cut you up until you've had at least three opinions.
