: I have a bunion on my right foot. It has gotten worse over the last few yrs. and MUCH worse over the last 6 mos. I finally got up the courage to go see a Podiatrist. Have an appointment this week. From all the info I have gathered, the only real cure for the pain is surgery.
: Believe it or not, I am 47 and I have never had any kind of surgery. Needless to say, I am very concerned. Has anyone else had this surgery? Is it extremely Painful? How long does recovery take?
: Any info would be appreciated.

Becky, I bet your mom had bunions, too. I am a guy but Im starting to get them too. My mom had bunions on each foot to the point that her toes overlapped. After years of suffering, she finally went and had them done. They did one foot at a time, allowing several months in between. Guess that you just need one done. Don't know how bad yours is but hers were bad enough that both surgeries took place in the hospital instead of drs office.Of course they had to also straighten other toes as well. She was in overnight each time. She was required to keep her foot iced and elevated for the first few days and was off of each one a good two weeks then had to keep them wrapped and bandaged and wear a big surgical shoe for about 6 weeks each time. Im sure there are much more advanced techniques today as this was nearly 10 years ago. Turned out great and she never had any more problems.
