About 3 years ago my 12 year old daughter had foot surgery to put plastic implants in or under her ankle bones to support them. After the surgery, her bandaged ankles developed open wounds (infections??)on the front of her ankles even though the small incisions were made on the sides. The incisions healed fine but the open wounds turned into hypertrohic or keloid scars. Her doctor did not know what caused it, and several dermatologists have not wanted to consider plastic surgery. They offered creams etc. and we tried the silicon sheets for weeks/months but the scar tissue never improved. My insurance company denied my initial request for plastic surgery correction. I'm now going to try them again. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might have caused this and what can be done to correct it? Thank you.
