: I see that it has been awhile since your message was posted. I have the same problem you describe your wife having but only in my right foot. My problem is called Plantar Faschitis. It is a chronic inflamation for the plantar faschia. I am taking an anti-inflamatory medication by mouth and wearing custom made insoles to support my arches. My problem is slowly improving. The main drawback is that I love to go barefooted. If I spend much time without my insoles my foot hurts more for several days. Hope this helps.
I have gone to 2 podiatrists. Both say I have heel spurs, plantar faschitis,& bunions both feet. I
have had 2 sets of orthotics for my shoes, 4 cortizone shots in left foot, one in right. I would get
relief for couple days but would always come back worse than before.
I was scheduled for surgery today on both feet. Removel of spurs, bunions, cutting plantar
faschia,and pins in toes.
The anesthesiologist asked that I get a physical from my family doctor. When I told him what I
was going to have done, he very explicitly told me NOT to do this. He said nobody cuts the
plantar faschia any more. He referred me to an orthopaedic surgeon, which also said the same
thing. "Surgery is not the answer." He give me a brace to wear and wants me to have physical
therapy to learn excerises. I don't know if this will work, but I am glad I had to get a physical. I
couldn't afford to be off work 3-4 months and possibly still have problems.
