Two yrs ago, I enlarged the sesamoid bones(located in ball, under big toe) in my right foot.
A yr ago, I got custom-made orthotics from my foot doctor(wich seemed to work for abt 6mos).
Then, last fall, I developed a sharp pain in the tops of both feet, wen i walked. The doctor said
that I had inflamed the joint that is in the tops of my feet.(He insisted i did not hv arthritis...from
looking at my sesamoid xray from earlier in the yr). He prescribed Naproxen...but no effect.
Then Arthrotec...no effect(just severe stomach ache). Then Vioxx...again, no effect.
I have NO INSURANCE, so I had to stop trying the anti-inflamatories, because I ran out of money!
I started taking the dietary supplement "Glucosamine-Chondroitin(1500mg)" in February of this yr.
After about 7weeks, the top of feet pain, seemed to subside. Meanwhile, I re-aggrivated my sesamoid
wich still hurts now. In April i mistakenly bought a lesser dosoage(500mg) of Glucosamine and the
top-of-feet pain came back with a fury. Im back (20days now) to the 1500mg. But now, both my big
toes CLICK wen i walk. Im 29/female, very athletic and not at all over-weight. Before injuring my
sesamoid bone while snakeboarding(sorta like a skateboard where feet attached with bindings),
I used to run 5 miles a day. I miss running VERY much. I do not want to hv to give up Snakeboarding.
Is sesamoid removal surgery a bad thing? Can I return to my sports afterwards? What's with my big
toes clicking now? And shud i just keep taking my Glucosamine 3 times a day?...I want to go back
to the doctor sooo bad...but i cant afford it. ..Oh yeah, thot maybe i had Lyme(im in New Jersey).
but i tested negative. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.
