: On May 31 I had bunions corrected on both sides of the same foot. On each side the doctor removed the bunions and then cut, realigned, and pinned the bones. I have kept the foot elevated and iced as much as possible. Does anyone have any idea when I might walk again without the aid of crutches? I know it will be a while but I'd like to have some idea.
hey Elaine,
I walked without the aid of crutches two weeks after surgery (5/5). I had the stitches and pins taken out 5/18 and 5/22 respectively. Of course I had the big ugly shoe until 6/1. it was great to finally take a tub bath without having that foot hang over and to stand in the shower, yes! I have undergone electrical stimulation therapy 2x a week since 5/22 and I am doing great. Since 6/3 I have been wearing open toe sandals, sneakers. The sneakers are the best for support. I am heading back to work 6/19 after being out for six (6) weeks. I am doing quite well the surgical scar is healing nicely and I am rubbing cocoa butter on it often. The big toe is still slightly swollen but not painful. Good luck and speedy recovery.
