I had one in college, while running track- developed appearantly from my shoes being tied too tight. The trainer said I could use the "textbook" method - ie: smash it with the book... since it's a fluid filled cyst. I ended up having it "pop" on it's own while I was running a workout. Hurt like hell, but it disappeared after that.
