: : You need to see a doctor. There are many causes of water retention including heart failure and kidney failure. The pitting is an especially bad sign.
: I have seen a doctor regarding the pitting. He said that my heart was normal and strong. He did send me to have some tests done to check other possible issues such as kidney/Liver etc. I did not here back from him. I've always thought no news is good news. Maybe I should have it looked at again.
: : : Hi all. What exactly is water retention? And why does it occur? I'm a 34 yr old male, and for whatever reason I seem to be retaining water. It appears to be pitting around my ankels and knees. It appears to come and go. Any suggestions????

I was told (while I was pregnant and now trying to loose wight) that I needed to avoid anything that contained high sodium, like salt, canned or prepared foods or drinks, because it helps to retain water in our body.
What has the doctor told you about sodium?
