Sorry to hear about that. Fortunately mine are in a fireproof lock box. Keep bugging the VA (if they are the last ones to have your records). As for your military records the DOD will most likely never give you a copy. Do you at least have a copy of your 214. I don't know if that will help but, at least it'll show you were in DS.
