In Reply to: What are the signs and symptoms in our pets? posted by Gulf War Vereran on August 28, 2000 at 19:24:50:

Hi GWV,
Sorry to hear about your pets but I can only speak for my own. We have already lost a cat and still have 3 dogs and 1 cat left. The symptoms they have are similar to my husbands. Those are diarrhea, urinary infections, (rectal bleeding has occurred several times in 1 of our dogs so far). All the dogs have many, many knots on their bodies. They appear in different shapes under the skin. Your Vet will call them lick wounds or a type of cyst or tumor. Some knots have even broken the skin and one of our dogs had to have a knot removed twice and our Vet said if it comes back again he will have to take her leg. They all get sick very easy (throwing up, high fevers, etc.). They ALL are very sensitive to loud noises and get scared very easily. They run and hide all the time yet they have NEVER been abused. The oldest dog (mainly) does that sneezing and swallowing thing to. My husbands VA Nurse has seen this in ALL our pets and agrees. This is proof that it's contagious. Most people don't accept that but it is. What I would like you to do is report your sick pets to Jim Reeves in Virginia (as stated in my prior post). His # is: 800-497-6261. He is aware of this and whoever has sick pets out there should inform him (or anyone at that number) because right now DC isn't taking it seriously. The more reports he gets, the better. Jim Reeves goes around the Country and talks to sick Veterans and their families and reports his findings to DC. If your Veterinarian is like our old one, he's not going to believe you. The one we have now does because he has a couple of pets that he treats which belong to GWV. My Best To You! Keep Fighting!

: if she is ill from my gulf war illness? I am worried about her being in pain. She appears to be
: doing this sneezing, swallowing thing. It is as if she is swallowing a lot of nasal discharge.
: I want to say thanks to all who are fighting for answers -- thanks!
