: I am such a mess. I cannot find any doctors out there who will treat my pain. I get the "you don't want to be addicted to drugs do you?" speech every time. I have been taking Fiorinal and Soma daily for quite some time which just takes the edge off this crappy CDH. My depression is getting worse. The migraines are just monthly. No doctor I have seen has any sympathy for my chronic pain. I am a 31yo mom of 2 boys and have a great husband. Have never smoked, never drank alcohol. Have tried NUMEROUS medications to no avail, chiropractic, physical therapy, massage therapy, naturopathic doctor, dietary changes, yoga, many different antidepressants. I just can't get over this constant pain and unhappiness. I am a stay at home mom who lives on the couch. Luckily I have a great dh who works all day and then comes home and does the housework as that is how incapacitated I am. Depression and pain.....what a great life I have. Does anyone have ANY suggestions at all as to what I can try, who I can see, what I can do to feel better? I really, really want my life back but I am so tired all the time (of which no doctor work up could find any reason for). I am just a loser, a lost case......

Hello Kim;

You are not a loser and you are not alone!! I used to get CDH and migraine and found that, for me, I was getting rebound headaches caused by taking tylenol every day!! I don't know if that is behind yours, but I do know that any headache specialist would look there first and probably insist that you stopped taking all pain meds. for a time period. There is more and more research out there that backs the rebound 'theory' up.

It isn't a very nice time living through the headaches for a time period without so much as an aspirin, but in the end it was worth it for me. If you do not have 'rebound' then after ruling that out other things can be tried.

You should force yourself to at least go for a walk every day. Excercise is a great help. You should eat at the same times every day (and 3-4 meals a day - but smaller portions), go to bed every night at the same time and never sleep in and never dose on the couch in the daytime. Try eliminating foods like chocolate, cheeses, MSG, red wine and the like from your diet. AND keep a diary of your headaches with things like, time they came, duration, what you were doing when they came, how bad they are (rate them from 1-3 with 3 being unbearable) and the mediations that you took.

ONce you have done the above, the headache Dr. will have what he needs to work with. Some Dr.'s are very worried about prescribing pain meds. for a couple of reasons. 1 is your addiction and 2 is that they don't want to have to answer to 'the board' for prescribing too many pain meds.. This attitude seems to be changing but is still around.
Almost every headache specialist that I have talked to or read about, will prescribe pain meds. but in limited quantities and after ruling out other causes. It is not the best way to go, but for certain people it is the only thing that works right now.

I also suffer from migraine and ahve for over 20 years. Tried everything you can imagine with no change at all. I found out by reading alot of reports and studies that there are ALOT of people out there who suffer from bad headaches. So you are not alone!!

An excellent site is www.headachedrugs.com it is filled with information from and excellent specialist.

Hope this helps and good luckk////Charlie
