: : I have suffered with migraines for the past 10-11 yrs. Have gone thru all the tests and have tried almost every medicine. Am currently attending a Headache Clinic. My doctor just prescribed Zomig to treat my migraine when I get one to try to keep me off the narcotics. I've not tried it yet but would appreciate any feedback on it. Also, in a newsletter I picked up at the Clinic, it suggested alternative ways to treat headaches. It listed Valerian Root. I have done some research on the internet and it sounds too good to be true. Has anyone tried this and if so is it worth it? Thanks.
: Hi Heather,
: I've had my favourite headaches since the early 80's. I had a serious abdominal problem for most of the 90's and the demoral and morphine took all the pains away. About three years ago I was healed of the abdo problems and the migranes returned imediately. I was then having blood peasure problems so my Dr. has been trying me out on various meds. to control the B.P. and see if that was causing the migranes as well. My B.P. is under control but the headaches are still there as bad as ever, and I now have a tolerance to the pain meds. For the migranes I tries zomig, amerge (a new treatment that is supposed to be effective on a large majority of migrans with no help) and now I am on amitriptyline (The only depression here is from a pounding in my head, and the kind of person I have become from it) and indomethacin. So far no change! To top it off it is about the third time I've gone wothout the pain meds. to be sure(?) that it's not rebound headaches. If anyone else has tried this combination please let me know. I don't like the person I've become because of these headaches which are constant without the pain meds.
I too have suffered from headaches for some 30 years. I am a 37 year old female with a five year old boy, living outside Philadelphia. I have severe environmental allergies and receive allergy shots. I have been to a new neurologist who did an MRI which showed two bulging cervical disks. He tried two nerve block shots, but I only had relief for a day with each rather than months like he promised. I have tried zomig and I like it. I have also tried amerge, maxalt and immitrex. The problem with these is that we are not supposed to take more that 6 per month. I have easily exceeded that, but I am worried about continuing to take so much. I have tried accupuncture with some relief. The weather pressure affects me greatly. Exercise helps me tremendously, but the relief ends when I stop running. I am desperate and beside myself about this. I am considering chiropractic, but am hesitant. Please let me know if you have any further insights. Thanks and good luck.
