: Thirteen months ago I was happy, healthy and life was good. I came down with a sinus infection with a "stuffed up" right ear. I was at the doctor's office every 7 - 10 days. Nothing helped my "stuffed up" ear. On July 10th, I had severe pain in my left temple and lost my hearing in the left ear. After seven months of "I don't know", my persistence paid off and I was diagnosed with AIED. I currently wear hearing aids in both ears (with 65% loss in my right and 75% in my left). I have learned to adjust but my balance and vision continue to be off centered. I would love to hear from anyone who has unexplained hearing loss in one ear or both or has been diagnosed with AIED. Please contact me at email@example.com.
I also supposedly have AIED tho' there is no definitive test for it. I lost half the hearing in my L ear in '78, they thought it was viral. Then 3 years ago I had 'flu
symptoms & my hearing started declining in the R ear. Steroids didn't help. A year later it
was suggested that it might be AIED & I was put on Methotrexate (immunosuppressive drug)
for a year. This stopped the slow decline but I had a sudden drop in hearing in Nov, which didn't
recover, & now use 2 aids. I'm off all medication since Jan & my hearing is quite stable but
fluctuates at each frequency by a small amount within a narrow range.Even with the aids
I have better & worse days. Please reply- we can discuss lots more.Lucille
