: Karen,

: I am 28 years old and had the tubes inserted in my ears about 4 months ago. I have felt extreme relief from this horrible condition. I would HIGHLY recommend this procedure to anyone who suffers from Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. The surgery was done on an outpatient basis and was quick. I can't say that it didn't hurt, because when they put the ointment in my ear to numb it, it felt like they stuck a q-tip in too far, but it only hurt for a second. After 3 or 4 secs, the numbness kicked in and they put the tubes in. The whole thing took less than 10 minutes. It took the doctor more time to set up then it did to do the actual surgery. After care would be minimal. I had to get earplugs made to keep water out, but other than that, that was it. The tubes will fall out on their own in 6 to 9 months. My doctor told me that if the problem continues after they fall out, we will put them back in. They also have permanant tubes as well, but I won't need them unless I go back a third time. If you have ETD and want to get relief, the tubes are the way to go. I am a new person and have my freedom back again. If you have any further questions, post back, I check here often.

: Best of Luck to you.

: Sincerely,

: Wendy

Thank you so much Wendy for the advice. I will be having this done, but first my ears must heal. All the inflammation must heal. The ENT specialist told me that the tubes do fall out and if I don't go on a plane while they are in, I might have the same problem next time. He advised I used ear planes which are pressurized ear plugs. I will try that, but I won't be flying for a long while. It hurts too much right now and they must heal. Then I will scheudle surgery for the tubes. Thanks again for the advice.
